UPCOMING COACH WORKSHOP: PLAYING OUT FROM THE BACK

MWFA · May 23, 2024 · Leave a Comment

  • What are the ideal exercises to use to help players learn how to play through pressure?
  • How can you help guide your players to make the best decisions and work together effectively?
  • Can you still work on playing out from the back with limited space and numbers at training?

All of these questions will be answered in MWFA’s upcoming Coach Workshop on Monday May 27 at Kitchener Park starting at 6pm.

MWFA runs a large number of Coach Workshops at various clubs during the winter season. These coach education opportunities compliment official FA coaching courses, with topics based on feedback received on what coaches would find valuable. For more information about official coaching courses available, please see here: https://www.mwfa.com.au/coaching-courses/

Coaches can attend any and all of these workshops if they wish to, even if they are not a member of the club hosting them. Please ensure you arrive at least 10 minutes early to sign in so the workshops can start and finish on time. It would be appreciate if all participants can bring football boots (ideally) or runners, and appropriate clothing to play football in, just in case they are needed as players on the night.

All MWFA Coach Workshops are completely FREE, but registration is required.

Daughters & Dads Comes To Cromer Park

MWFA · May 17, 2024 · Leave a Comment

Over the last two Wednesday nights, Manly Warringah Football Association have been running the Daughters & Dads program at Cromer Park, in conjunction with Football NSW.

Daughters & Dads is an award-winning program that uses football to strengthen the bond between fathers / father figures and their daughters. In Term 2 of this year’s school calendar, the program is being held in Hornsby, Blacktown and at FNSW headquarters (Glenwood), in addition to the sessions that are being held at Cromer Park. Participants gather on a weekly basis for both classroom-based education sessions and practical sessions that teach football skills.

The Northern Beaches section of the program is being facilitated by local coach Marilinda Winter, who is delighted to be working in an area of football aimed at boosting participation amongst young girls.

“I am thrilled to be facilitating the Daughters & Dads Football program in the Northern Beaches as it is a wonderful pathway for breaking down barriers to female participation in football, as well as fostering confidence and empowerment for young girls.

“This engaging program gives dads the confidence and opportunity to spend quality time with their daughter while picking up some coaching skills. It’s wonderful to see the daughters happily rough and tumble with their dads and learn some footwork skills, whilst having fun. We even throw in some cheesy dad jokes at the end of each session!”

MWFA LOOKING FORWARD TO 2024 STATE CUP

MWFA · May 17, 2024 · Leave a Comment

After a couple of weekends that have been interrupted by rain, Manly Warringah Football Association is looking forward to seeing its teams in action during the 2024 Football NSW State Cup.

Action in this competition commenced on Sunday May 5, but due to the recent weather, this upcoming Sunday looks like being the first State Cup match day of the year which will be unaffected by pitch closures.

Manly Warringah FA CEO David Mason is looking forward to the variety of competitive experiences provided by participation in this statewide competition.

“The Football NSW State Cup competition is a great way for our clubs and players to test themselves against fellow grassroots clubs from all over NSW. MWFA clubs have a rich history of success in the State Cup, winning five titles in 2023, and we wish all of our teams the best of luck in the 2024 competition.”

There are fifteen diffferent age groups, ranging from 13 Girls & 13 Boys to Over 35 Men, and there is at least one MWFA team participating in every category! We look forward to seeing our teams progress in the competition, which culminates with the Finals Day, scheduled for Sunday 14 July.

MWFA Coach Mentors Available to Support You

MWFA · May 9, 2024 · Leave a Comment

MWFA is pleased to be able to confirm that we are now accepting requests for training session and match day mentoring.

This was very popular and well received last year, with 200 coaches from all different age groups and levels taking advantage of the opportunity to get support and learn from our experienced Coach Development team. The group is headed by MWFA Coach Development Manager Eugene Lawrenz, and includes Gregor Agic, James Mitchell, Marilinda Winter, Catriona Ormond, Gareth Banks and Patty Faria.

The purpose of these visits will be to help coaches learn and develop their coaching ‘on the job’ with their actual teams, so we can help them come up with solutions to their specific challenges, while this also complements coaching courses as it provides ongoing learning and follow-up support.

“We had a mentor visit our training last season and couldn’t have wished for anything more. I got so much out of the session, as did the girls. It was really positive, refreshing and insightful. I think really highly of the whole MWFA Coach Development team, and fully intend to use their services as much as we can! Their enthusiasm is infectious and inspiring to us all.”

– Neil Sheard (Allambie Beacon Hill W15 Coach)

Coaches can make a request using either of the links below. We just ask that they read the information about how the visits will work carefully, so they have an understanding of what to expect and how we can help them.

Female Only Coaching Course Available

MWFA · May 2, 2024 · Leave a Comment

MWFA is pleased to announce that we will be offering another female only coaching course this season as part of ‘Female Football Week’.

As an association, we are keen to celebrate and recognise the contribution females make to our sport, as well as develop more female coaches and role models for female players, so we believe offering a learning environment that is more welcoming for prospective female coaches is important.

We would like to encourage female parents, older siblings, senior players and even youth players from U14s and above to consider attending this course if they might be interested in being involved in coaching. Any female coaches who have already done this course but would still like to join in to support the event are more than welcome as well.

The course will be presented by female Coach Developers, and all participants are also encouraged to bring a female friend or family member along to make it a more comfortable atmosphere.

The course is completely FREE, and there is no expectation that you will make a commitment to being a coach – just come along to learn about football and coaching in a fun, practical, and supportive environment.

MWFA will get behind #PlayinPurple 2024 on July 20-21

MWFA · Apr 18, 2024 · Leave a Comment

Manly Warringah Football Association is very excited to be supporting PanKind’s #PlayinPurple program for 2024. This fantastic campaign raises awareness that a healthy lifestyle, exercise, and social connection can help reduce the risk of cancer. All funds raised help PanKind get one step closer to their mission: tripling pancreatic cancer survival rates by 2030.

MWFA’s #PlayinPurple weekend will be July 20 – 21. We encourage all our clubs to register and spread the word to their teams. Getting involved is as simple as swapping your club’s socks for PanKind purple socks on the campaign weekend, but you can also choose to fundraise, get your club sponsors on board and so much more. There’s also a NEW sock design this year!

Grassroots community football is the perfect platform to spread the message that exercise and social connection can help to prevent cancer. As an association, we are committed to helping raise the profile of pancreatic cancer through the #PlayinPurple campaign. It will be wonderful to see our clubs, players and community uniting for this important cause and shining a light on one of Australia’s toughest cancers.

To register for the campaign, visit www.playinpurple.org.au.  There you will find the online shop to buy socks, as well as a host of assets and resources to help make your campaign a success.

If you have any questions about organising your #PlayinPurple campaign, please reach out to the team at PanKind via email: playinpurple@pankind.org.au

Are you preparing your team for the upcoming season, but struggling for ideas or with the challenge of trying to run engaging and effective training sessions? Would like some more ideas for drills to do, tips for managing player behaviour and attention, and/or clarity on which skills to teach at different age groups and levels?

Fortunately, MWFA still has a number of our very popular Football Australia coaching courses available over the next month or two. These are aimed at new coaches, as well as more experienced coaches, and even those looking to get into coaching.

The video below answers some FAQs such as:

• Should I attend a coaching course?
• What will I get out of it?
• What is it like being on a course and what does it involve?
• Will it still be helpful for me if I am an experienced player?
