Manly Warringah Football Association is delighted to congratulate Life Member Keith Pester on being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours.
Keith was recognised for his significant service to football administration, a fitting honour for one of the most respected and influential figures in Northern Beaches football.
For more than four decades, Keith has dedicated countless hours to the growth and development of the game. His contribution to MWFA alone spans more than 25 years, including serving as Vice President from 1998 to 2020, President of Representative Football, Publicity Officer, Judiciary Officer and, more recently, as a valued Board Member. His leadership, commitment and vision have helped shape the Association and the football experiences of thousands of players, coaches, referees and volunteers.
In recognition of his outstanding service, Keith was awarded Life Membership of MWFA in 2000. He is also a Life Member of Wakehurst FC and Manly United FC, reflecting the extraordinary impact he has had across every level of the game.
While his achievements and honours are many, Keith’s legacy is perhaps best measured by the strength of football on the Northern Beaches today. Generations of players have benefited from the pathways, programs and opportunities that he helped create, while countless volunteers have drawn on his guidance, support and wisdom.
The award of an OAM is a richly deserved recognition of a lifetime devoted to football and community service.
On behalf of the entire MWFA family, we congratulate Keith on this remarkable achievement and thank him for his extraordinary contribution to our game.
In less than a week, the Socceroos will take their place on football’s biggest stage as the 2026 FIFA World Cup gets underway across North America.
Kicking off at Mexico City’s iconic Estadio Azteca on June 11, the 2026 edition will be the biggest in history. For the first time, 48 nations will compete across three host countries – the US, Canada and Mexico – with a record 104 matches played over six weeks. The expanded format means more teams, more football and more opportunities for new nations to make their mark.
For Australian football fans, it’s another opportunity to get behind the green and gold while following the stories, stars and rivalries that make the FIFA World Cup one of the most watched sporting events on the planet.
Of course, as one of the world’s most multicultural nations, many of us will be cheering for more than one team. Whether you’re backing the Socceroos, supporting your country of heritage, or simply enjoying the spectacle, it’s the perfect excuse to get together and watch the world’s best players compete for football’s ultimate prize.
Aussie football fans also know how following a World Cup often comes with some challenging kick-off times. While many of this year’s matches will require early alarms or late nights, the tournament opener offers a much friendlier option, with a 2pm kick-off on Thursday, June 11.
If you’d like to experience the excitement of the opening match with others from the local community, join us at The Far Post as the biggest FIFA World Cup in history gets underway. It’s the perfect opportunity to soak up the atmosphere, enjoy the action and kick off six weeks of world-class football!
A group of young Avalon Soccer Club players recently enjoyed a memorable evening at Cromer Park, taking part in a special training session designed to showcase the opportunities available within the local football pathway.
The session brought together Avalon’s U12 girls and Manly United Women’s and Girls Technical Director Shaz Egger, who was joined by Strength & Conditioning coach Jadon to deliver a fun and engaging training experience.
Supported by long-time women’s football advocate Wayne Brown from Brown Bros. Skip Bins, the annual initiative continues to strengthen the connection between grassroots clubs and the higher levels of the game across the Northern Beaches.
After beginning with a FIFA warm-up, the players enjoyed a range of football activities, challenges and small-sided games, all while experiencing the environment and facilities at Cromer Park.
Most importantly, the evening gave the young players an opportunity to see a potential pathway for their own football journeys. Current Manly United First Grade players Ava Roberts , Ellie Kerr and Jas Robinson all started their careers at Avalon Soccer Club before progressing through the development pathway and into senior football.
As women’s football continues to grow across the region, experiences like these help inspire the next generation of players while highlighting the strong connections that exist between grassroots clubs and the wider football community. Here’s to many more in the years to come!
Next month, someone is having a special birthday!

Young players from Wakehurst FC and ABH United FC enjoyed a memorable night at Cromer Park during Manly United’s Round 14 clash against UNSW FC.
The mixed MiniRoos teams were special guests for the evening, taking in the action from one of the corporate boxes before enjoying an unforgettable pre-match experience as player mascots. The young footballers walked onto the field alongside the teams and officials before having their photos taken on the pitch under lights.
The excitement continued at half time, when the players returned to the field for a MiniRoos match of their own at Cromer Park.
Experiences like these remain a special part of match nights at Manly United, helping create lasting memories for young players from grassroots clubs, strengthening the connection between the club and the wider local football community.
Enjoy the photos of the players on the night – going by the sound levels on the pitch during their half-time mini game, we would say they had a fantastic time!
