NSW Football Legacy Fund – Round 2

Football NSW, together with Northern NSW Football and the NSW Government, are thrilled to announce the opening of Round 2 of the NSW Football Legacy Fund.

Forming part of the $10 million NSW Football Legacy Program, the Legacy Fund aims to transform football facilities, enhance participation opportunities and strengthen female player pathways across the state.

Round 2 of the Legacy Fund will provide up to $2.67 million of investment towards the upgrade or construction of new community facilities, and up to $560,000 for programs that support increased football participation and leadership development.

Football NSW CEO John Tsatsimas was excited at the prospect of seeing millions more invested into community football.

“Round 2 of the NSW Football Legacy Fund will once again provide a fantastic opportunity for clubs and associations across NSW to improve infrastructure and increase participation,” he said.

“Round 1 saw almost $2.5 million distributed for infrastructure upgrades and over $600,000 for participation initiatives.

“With over $3 million once again available in Round 2, the Legacy Fund provides the perfect opportunity for the Football NSW community to secure essential funding for the future. We encourage Clubs and Associations to consider applications for either stream.”

NSW Minister for Sport, Steve Kamper, was committed to ensuring everyone involved in football across the state will benefit from NSW hosting the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™.

“From girls and boys lacing up their boots for the first time to participants in elite development programs, all levels of football will benefit from the NSW Football Legacy Program,” he said.

“As we move forward, we are excited to witness the positive changes that the NSW Football Legacy Fund will bring to football communities throughout the state.

“By investing in infrastructure upgrades, participation initiatives, and leadership programs, we aim to create a sustainable and inclusive football environment for generations to come.”

Round 2 of the Legacy Fund is now open with the Infrastructure Stream closing on Friday 11 August and the Participation Stream closing Friday 7 July 2023.

WOMEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE ROUND 8 PREVIEW

The action in Women’s Premier League Round 8 is headlined by a top two clash at Beacon Hill Reserve. There are four MWFA WPL teams in the Football NSW Women’s State Cup quarter finals, which highlights the strength of this competition.

Beacon Hill are flying high in second place, but they have a tough assignment on Sunday afternoon – their aim is to inflict Seaforth’s first defeat of the league campaign. Confidence will be high in both camps after these two teams enjoyed success in last weekend’s State Cup games.

Pittwater were also victorious in the State Cup, now they will be looking to climb the table and reduce the gap to the top four. They play at Kitchener Park against fourth placed Curl Curl, who incredibly have drawn their last four WPL games.

Wakehurst and Brookvale are just outside the top four spots and will be well rested after having a weekend off. These two sides meet at Lionel Watts Oval: Wakehurst want to jump into the top four, but Brookvale can leapfrog the Tigers if they win.

Third placed Manly Vale will be feeling good after five consecutive victories (three in the State Cup, two in the WPL). They travel to Millers Reserve for a meeting with Manly Allambie, who are looking to end their winless run and move off the bottom of the table.

Defibs installed at MWFA grounds

Last month, defibs (defibrillators) were installed at seven local grounds to improve player safety. These defibrillators are permanently monitored and will be available at all times. We spoke to Manly Warringah Football Association Director Terry Gatward about this initiative.

“We applied for and received some government grants for permanent, monitored defibs. These change the need for us to have volunteers put out portable defibs every game. Previously, on training nights and other times there were no defibs at these locations, so now there’s always-monitored defibs available at these grounds. It just ups the coverage of defib availability, without relying on a volunteer to put it out.”

The new defibrillators were installed at Beacon Hill Reserve, Dee Why Oval, John Fisher Park (Abbott Road), St Matthews Farm Reserve, Seaforth Oval, Terrey Hills Oval and Wyatt Reserve.

“We actually applied for 16 locations, we got approval for seven. The choices were made by the New South Wales State MPs for this area.”

MWFA would like to thank Staying Alive Health (https://stayingalivehealth.com.au/) for supplying and installing these defibrillators. To further heart health awareness amongst local clubs, Staying Alive Health will run training courses over the next month. Gatward is grateful for the support that has been provided.

“We’ve had defibs deployed at every game for about six years now. This just extends the coverage to training at these grounds and also builds on the Gala Day that we had earlier in the year.”

COACH WORKSHOP: PLAYING OUT FROM THE BACK

All of these questions will be answered in MWFA’s upcoming Coach Workshop on Thursday June 22 at Seaforth Oval starting at 6pm.

 

MWFA runs a large number of Coach Workshops at various clubs during the winter season. These coach education opportunities compliment official FA coaching courses, with topics based on feedback received on what coaches would find valuable. Coaches can attend any and all of these workshops if they wish to, even if they are not a member of the club hosting them. Please ensure you arrive at least 10 minutes early to sign in so the workshops can start and finish on time. MEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE ROUND 13 PREVIEW

As we head into MWFA Men’s Premier League Round 13, the top two are on the same number of points, while there is only one point separating the teams in fourth and seventh! Everything points to another closely fought set of games on Saturday afternoon.

Two teams coming off important wins meet at Lionel Watts Oval. Both Wakehurst (7th) and Brookvale (5th) know that victory could see them jump into the top four, so the stakes will certainly be high. For Wakehurst, the game is also an opportunity for revenge after Brookvale defeated them 3-1 in Round 2.

Harbord host Narrabeen and are looking to put last weekend’s narrow defeat behind them. However, Narrabeen are the new league leaders and will be travelling to Harbord Park full of confidence after an eight game undefeated run in the Premier League.

St Augustine’s were big winners in Round 12, their next challenge is an away trip to St Matthews Farm Reserve and a meeting with CC Strikers. For Strikers, this game is an opportunity to regain top spot if Narrabeen fail to win – both Strikers and Narrabeen are on 25 points and the goal difference margin is tiny (Strikers on +18, Narrabeen on +19).

Manly Vale have won three of their last four games, creating a seven point gap between them and the bottom two. A victory against fourth placed Mosman at Middle Head Oval could put Manly Vale right in the mix for a top four position. Finally, Beacon Hill and BTH Raiders meet at Beacon Hill Reserve, with both sides hoping to bounce back after home defeats last time out.

Beacon Hill Fundraiser For Bear Cottage

On Saturday June 10, there will be a Beacon Hill fundraiser for Bear Cottage, a children’s hospice that specialises in paediatric palliative care. Bear Cottage’s aim is to provide children undergoing treatment with an environment as far removed from a hospital as possible.

Beacon Hill FC are raising money in support of Archie, one of their under-6 players. Archie uses a wheelchair and, with the cooperation of both Beacon Hill FC and Manly Warringah Football Association, has been registered so that he can be in a team with his friends.

Funds raised on Saturday from the canteens at Beacon Hill Reserve and Tristram Road Reserve will be donated to Bear Cottage. In addition, donation buckets will be present, and Beacon Hill FC senior teams will donate an amount of money for each goal they score on the day.

The club will also match the amount of donations supplied by their members, players and spectators, in further support of this wonderful cause.

Please help the Beacon Hill fundraiser by visiting either Beacon Hill Reserve or Tristram Road Reserve on Saturday, and donate whatever you can spare – every amount, no matter how small, will be of great assistance to Bear Cottage. At Beacon Hill, the earliest games start at 8:30am and the final game kicks off at 3pm, while at Tristram Road the earliest games begin at 8:30am and the latest games start at 11:30am.

MEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE ROUND 12 PREVIEW

We’re entering the second half of the season! Saturday’s action is headlined by a top two clash at Narrabeen High, while the other games in Men’s Premier League Round 12 also carry plenty of intrigue.

Second placed Narrabeen host league leaders CC Strikers and victory for Narrabeen will put them level on points with Strikers at the top of the table. For Narrabeen, this is a perfect opportunity to bounce back from defeat in Tuesday’s Challenge Cup Final, but CC Strikers have only lost one Premier League game in 2023.

Pittwater RSL are flying high after winning 2-0 in midweek and lifting the Challenge Cup trophy. Next up for Pittwater is an away game against Brookvale at Grahams Reserve – Pittwater will be looking to keep the top two in their sights with a win, while sixth placed Brookvale need three points to keep pace in the battle for finals spots.

Wakehurst and Beacon Hill are also in the mix for the top four. Beacon Hill are in fifth, on the same number of points as fourth placed Mosman, while Wakehurst are four points behind them and in seventh place, so their game at Lionel Watts Reserve is sure to be keenly fought.

Harbord travel to David Thomas Reserve in search of a win that would move them closer to the mid-table positions. However, Manly Vale will be keen to defend their home turf and are looking for a third win in four rounds. Finally, St Augustine’s are coming off a thrilling 4-4 draw against Beacon Hill and their next assignment is a home game against BTH Raiders at Passmore Reserve.

Our women’s teams have had Sapphire Cup, State Cup and Challenge Cup games over the last two weeks, now it’s time for Women’s Premier League Round 7. Only two points separates fourth place from eighth place – everything points to another hotly contested round of WPL games!

Wakehurst will be looking to shrug off Wednesday’s Challenge Cup heartbreak when they take on Curl Curl. These two teams come into this clash on the same number of points, with Curl Curl in fourth and Wakehurst in fifth, so expect a close game at Abbott Road.

Beacon Hill are flying high in second place, and they’re also into Round 3 of the Football NSW State Cup after a convincing victory over Lokomotiv Cove. Their next assignment is a trip to Grahams Reserve for a game against Brookvale, who are trying to bounce back from last week’s Sapphire Cup defeat.

Pittwater RSL were victorious against Leichhardt Saints in last weekend’s State Cup action – they’ll want to build momentum and climb the ladder. However, third placed Manly Vale will have plenty of motivation as they look to keep pace with the top two teams.

Finally, Seaforth have the task of backing up from State Cup success and their dramatic triumph in the Challenge Cup Final. The league leaders travel to Millers Reserve for a clash with Manly Allambie, who are seeking a return to winning ways.
