MWFA Grows Their Coach Mentor Team

MWFA · Jun 22, 2023 · Leave a Comment

In 2022, MWFA recruited several experienced coaches who were already working with Coach Development Manager Eugene Lawrenz as casual course and workshop presenters to become part-time Coach Mentors, going out to clubs on a regular basis to help coaches with their training sessions and match coaching. This was a very successful program, and we are pleased to have recruited several new Coach Mentors to join our team this year, allowing us to have an even greater reach.

Our current Coach Mentor team includes:
Eugene Lawrenz
Gregor Agic
James Mitchell
Marilinda Winter

We are now pleased to welcome Catriona Ormond and Sai van Wegen to the team as well, both of whom already have experience presenting courses and workshops with us too. We will be posting their profiles on our website in the coming weeks.

Patty Faria and Nina Sallenave are also working with us this season specifically to directly mentor a few female coaches each on a more regular basis as part of our new Female Mentoring Program. More information about this program will be shared later in the season.

For more information about Coach Mentoring and to sign up for a session visit, please see here: https://www.mwfa.com.au/2023/06/15/coach-mentoring-available-now/

Although most official coaching courses for the season have now been completed, we still have one final MiniRoos Certificate available on Thursday June 29 at Cromer Park. If you feel like your training is getting a bit stale, we will give you 30+ new drills to take away, as well as various coaching tips for how to manage and motivate players to keep them focused and to challenge them to improve. See here to register: https://education-ffa.sportingpulse.com/event.asp?ID=27086

We also still have a few Coach Workshops available if you’d like to see us run a session with a real team. These typically focus on a specific topic, for example we have one focused on ‘Playing Out from the Back’ available tonight at Seaforth, as well as ‘Match Coaching’, ‘Spreading Out/Positioning’ and ‘Defending as a Team’ all in mid July after the school holidays. See here for more details and to register: https://www.mwfa.com.au/coaching-workshops/

MEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE ROUND 15 PREVIEW

MWFA · Jun 21, 2023 · Leave a Comment

No matter where you look, there’s plenty of intrigue as we head into Men’s Premier League Round 15. The rematch of the 2023 Challenge Cup Final catches the eye, and all five games are sure to be fascinating affairs.

At Kitchener Park, we’ll have a meeting between top three sides. Third placed Pittwater won big on the weekend, but so did second placed Narrabeen – will Narrabeen get revenge for defeat at the hands of Pittwater in last month’s Men’s Challenge Cup Final?

League leaders CC Strikers have scored nine times in their last two games and their next opponents Beacon Hill are coming off a thrilling 3-3 draw against Brookvale. Everything points to an exciting clash at Beacon Hill Reserve, the hosts will be looking to move up from sixth place with a victory.

Mosman host St Augustine’s at Middle Head Oval, with both teams trying to turn things around from defeat in Round 14. Three points for Mosman will ensure another week in the top four, while eighth placed Saints are looking for a result to keep them away from the bottom two.

Fifth placed Wakehurst are fresh off the bye weekend and could move into the top four with victory if other results go their way. They host Manly Vale at Lionel Watts Oval, with ninth placed Vale looking to bounce back from two consecutive defeats.

Harbord enjoyed their first win of 2023 when they defeated Saints on the weekend. They’ll be looking to make it two in a row when they host BTH Raiders at Harbord Park – victory for tenth placed Harbord and defeat for Manly Vale could see Harbord leapfrog Vale on the ladder.

Men’s Premier League Round 15 Fixtures

Saturday 24 June, 3pm

Beacon Hill v CC Strikers, Beacon Hill Reserve Field 2
Harbord v BTH Raiders, Harbord Park Field 2
Pittwater RSL v Narrabeen, Kitchener Park Field 1
Wakehurst v Manly Vale, Lionel Watts Oval Field 4
Mosman v St Augustine’s, Middle Head Oval Field 1

A MESSAGE REGARDING BEHAVIOUR AT GAMES

MWFA · Jun 16, 2023 · Leave a Comment

The MWFA and our 17 Clubs would like to share our collective concern about the sharp increase in abuse and incidents during the 2023 season.

We believe it is time to take a stand and remind EVERYONE that your football matches on the weekend are not a platform or arena for poor behaviour, or for abusing and confronting each other on the sideline.

It is particularly important that this message sinks in with respect to referees, both during and after matches.

This week alone, the MWFA Disciplinary Committee had 31 cases – some of these incidents have even spilled over into the courts.

At Tuesday night’s Club Forum, the MWFRA (Referees Association) detailed the sharp increase in incidents of abuse of referees, some as young as 14 years of age.

Make no mistake: poor behaviour amongst players, spectators (parents), towards referees and each other will not be tolerated, BUT it’s not just the referees that deserve respect – it is all of you!

We have 20,000 players, 2,000 coaches, 600 referees, roughly 350 Club Committee Members and all of their families. Our “community” is 100,000 strong and all of you deserve to be able to attend matches without being abused, so the time has come for EVERYONE to understand that enough is enough.

The MWFA Playing Rules allow for Team Discipline Points to be allocated against teams for the behaviour of the players, coaches and the parents/spectators.

The behaviour of spectators and parents can cause teams to pick up Team Discipline Points and be expelled from the competition for the remainder of the season. In previous seasons we have had instances of junior teams being expelled because of the behaviour of parents and spectators and it can happen again!

This message has the full support of the 17 clubs, including your club, and we will stand united against this increase in anti-social behaviour.

Please respect each other and take a moment to reflect on why we play grassroots community football. If things don’t go your way on the weekend, take a breath and consider your actions.

WOMEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE ROUND 5 PREVIEW

MWFA · Jun 16, 2023 · Leave a Comment

The next round of MWFA Women’s Premier League is split over Sunday and Wednesday because four of our teams have Football NSW State Cup commitments on the weekend. It’s an exciting time for the competition as there is only a one point gap between the teams in first and third.

Only one WPL game will be played on Sunday afternoon and it takes place at Grahams Reserve. Brookvale and Manly Allambie are trying to end winless streaks in the league – the top four isn’t too far away for both of them, so there is plenty of motivation.

Then on Wednesday, new league leaders Beacon Hill travel to Warriewood Valley Sportsground for a meeting with Pittwater. Beacon Hill are well aware of how important this match is as goal difference is the only thing separating them from second placed Seaforth.

Third placed Manly Vale won big last weekend and could even move into first place if other results go their way. Their next task is a trip to Abbott Road for a clash with Curl Curl, who will be looking for a win to consolidate fourth place in the league.

The other Wednesday fixture is a rematch of last month’s dramatic Women’s Challenge Cup Final. Wakehurst are looking to jump into the top four, while Seaforth know that victory could see them move back to the top of the table if Beacon Hill drop points.

We would also like to wish the best of luck to Beacon Hill, Manly Vale, Pittwater RSL and Seaforth for Sunday’s Football NSW State Cup quarter finals.

Match Details – Women’s Premier League Round 5

Sunday 18 June
3pm – Brookvale v Manly Allambie, Grahams Reserve Field 1

Wednesday 21 June
7pm – Curl Curl v Manly Vale, Abbott Road Field 5
7pm – Pittwater RSL v Beacon Hill, Warriewood Valley Sportsground Field 1

MEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE ROUND 14 PREVIEW

MWFA · Jun 15, 2023 · Leave a Comment

Last weekend, we had another change at the top of the table, while the battle for top four spots is certainly heating up! Men’s Premier League Round 14 is sure to be another fascinating set of games.

There’s plenty on the line at Narrabeen High as second placed Narrabeen host fourth placed Mosman. Narrabeen lost top spot on the ladder after drawing their game with Harbord, now they face a Mosman side who won big on Saturday against Manly Vale and need to keep winning if they are to remain in the top four.

Two of the teams trying to move into the top four, Brookvale (7th) and Beacon Hill (6th), meet at Grahams Reserve. Brookvale will be looking to make amends after losing to Wakehurst in Round 13, while Beacon Hill’s aim is to stop a winless streak that stands at five games.

CC Strikers are back on top of the table after comfortably defeating St Augustine’s on Saturday. Their next task is a trip to Terrey Hills Oval and a clash with BTH Raiders – any dropped points for Strikers could allow Narrabeen to regain first place.

Pittwater are coming off the bye weekend and travel to David Thomas Reserve for a meeting with Manly Vale. For Pittwater, this game could be a chance to close the gap to the leaders, while ninth placed Manly Vale are looking to put further ground between them and the bottom two teams.

Finally, Harbord should be confident after taking a point off high-flying Narrabeen on the weekend. They are set to play St Augustine’s at Passmore Reserve, and Saints will want to bounce back from a heavy defeat in their last outing.

Men’s Premier League Round 14 Fixtures

Saturday 17 June, 3pm

Manly Vale v Pittwater, David Thomas Reserve Field 2
Brookvale v Beacon Hill, Grahams Reserve Field 1
Narrabeen v Mosman, Narrabeen High Field 1
St Augustine’s v Harbord, Passmore Reserve Field 2
BTH Raiders v CC Strikers, Terrey Hills Oval Field 1

Coach Mentoring Available Now

MWFA · Jun 15, 2023 · Leave a Comment

MWFA is pleased to announce that our popular training support visits by our experienced Coach Mentors are available again this season, with an online booking system now live.

Coaches who attended courses and workshops with us earlier this season had already been given early access to available time slots as a reward for their commitment to developing themselves and giving their players the best possible football experience, with our schedule for June and most of July already full. Session visits have already been taking place for several weeks, but now new time slots have been made available for the remainder of the season for all MWFA coaches.

Having Coach Mentors available to assist coaches at their training sessions with their actual team is the most effective way to help them learn ‘on the job’ and come up with solutions to their specific challenges, while this also complements coaching courses as it provides ongoing learning and follow-up support.

If you would like to book a time slot in with an MWFA Coach Mentor, please follow the link below, but also read the information about how the session visit will work carefully, so you have an understanding of what to expect and how we can help you.

See here: https://calendly.com/mwfa-coach-support/training-session-mentoring

Please also note that preferred time slots may still need to be moved forward or back by a week or two depending on mentor availability. Match day mentoring will also be available soon.

Pittwater WPL’s Push Up Challenge

MWFA · Jun 13, 2023 · Leave a Comment

In June, the Pittwater RSL Women’s Premier League team is completing The Push Up Challenge to raise funding and awareness for mental health causes.

Funds raised will go towards three institutions who are working tirelessly to improve awareness in this space: Push For Better Foundation, Lifeline and Movember.

Over the course of 23 days, each participating individual will log up to 3,144 push ups, one for every Australian who lost their life during the 2021 calendar year due to mental health issues.

Click here for the Pittwater WPL donation page

Pittwater WPL player Mikayla Forder heard about this initiative via word of mouth and has worked hard to involve her teammates in this year’s challenge. She also recognises how much the team benefits when they collectively participate in these events.

“I originally heard of The Push Up Challenge last year when some of my friends did it. I know people who have dealt with mental health, so it’s an important cause that I’m passionate about. When I heard about it happening again this year, I thought it would be a fun and challenging thing to do while also raising money for such an important cause, especially for people my age and the same age as players in our team.

“I think it’s incredibly rewarding and gratifying to have the team backing me through this challenge. It has definitely helped me to continue when my arms are no longer working. I also think it was a great idea to get the team together and work for a goal. It helps to bring the team together and also through encouraging and supporting, we are building better connections and friendships.”

Forder is confident that the team can reach their fundraising target of $2,000.

“I wanted to set a realistic goal, but one that will also have a big impact on the fundraiser and cause, so this goal is definitely achievable. I’m just grateful to have a team that’s so open and willing to participate in a cause that’s so important. We can work together to raise the money and make the push up amount within this month.”

You can help Pittwater WPL reach (and hopefully exceed) their fundraising target by donating at the link below. We wish them the best of luck with both The Push Up Challenge and the remainder of their season.
