Let the World Cup Fever Commence!

In less than a week, the Socceroos will take their place on football’s biggest stage as the 2026 FIFA World Cup gets underway across North America.

Kicking off at Mexico City’s iconic Estadio Azteca on June 11, the 2026 edition will be the biggest in history. For the first time, 48 nations will compete across three host countries – the US, Canada and Mexico – with a record 104 matches played over six weeks. The expanded format means more teams, more football and more opportunities for new nations to make their mark.

For Australian football fans, it’s another opportunity to get behind the green and gold while following the stories, stars and rivalries that make the FIFA World Cup one of the most watched sporting events on the planet.

Of course, as one of the world’s most multicultural nations, many of us will be cheering for more than one team. Whether you’re backing the Socceroos, supporting your country of heritage, or simply enjoying the spectacle, it’s the perfect excuse to get together and watch the world’s best players compete for football’s ultimate prize.

Aussie football fans also know how following a World Cup often comes with some challenging kick-off times. While many of this year’s matches will require early alarms or late nights, the tournament opener offers a much friendlier option, with a 2pm kick-off on Thursday, June 11.

If you’d like to experience the excitement of the opening match with others from the local community, join us at The Far Post as the biggest FIFA World Cup in history gets underway. It’s the perfect opportunity to soak up the atmosphere, enjoy the action and kick off six weeks of world-class football!
