The MWFA grassroots football season has been extended by one week.
The extension has been secured after the MWFA has been able to work with Northern Beaches Council to secure the fields for an extra week, as part of our efforts to maximise the number of games played for teams and players due to the wet weather.
This will allow the MWFA to insert an extra full round of fixtures into the competition schedule before the semi finals / grand finals, as well as catch up on a small number of washed out games that have left some competitions with partial wash outs.
Key dates are now:
- Saturday 24 August Final round of matches (Mixed U6-U11s)
- Saturday 24 August Men’s Semi Final Day
- Saturday 24 August Mixed Junior Grand Final Day (U12s to U21s)
- Sunday 25 August Final round of matches (W7s-W11s)
- Sunday 25 August Girls/Women’s Semi Finals
- Saturday 31 August Men’s Grand Final Day
- Sunday 1 September Girls/Women Grand Final Day
“The MWFA would like to thank Northern Beaches Council staff for their understanding in extending the season by a week,” said MWFA CEO David Mason. “We understand this has some impact on the changeover period between winter and summer, but we’d like to acknowledge the collaborative approach that has been taken to ensure our 20,000 players can add another week to the season.
“We would also like to thank our players for their patience and understanding as we battle through the wet weather that is causing disruption to the 2024 season.”
