Welcome to the 2018 Season.
The opening weekend of the season is always exciting and a time for all of us to reflect on the reasons we all take part in this great game; whether as a player, manager, coach, referee, volunteer, parent or committee member.
Two goals, 22 players, coaches and managers, match officials and a ball with parents and friends watching on to play a game organised by an army of volunteers and committee members.
Id especially like to thank the volunteers at all 17 Clubs, in particular the Clubs Registrars, and the staff and registrars at the MWFA for getting us to the point where we have managed to get the vast majority of 18,000 players onto the field to enjoy their weekend football games.
This season we have made some exciting changes that we believe will help take our sport forward and ensure a better experience for all players.
The Electronic Match Sheets will see us embrace the digital age and although the education roll-out has been strong we ask everyone to embrace the change as it has enormous benefits for all parts of the Football Community.
Tonight we host the first MWFA Mens Premier League match of the Round at Cromer Park, which is an exciting step towards elevating the status of the MWFA Premier League but also unifying all sections of the football community. Im sure the Brookvale v Dee Why clash will be a great start. Kick off every week is 7pm with the Clubhouse open for drinks and a portable pizza oven business complimenting the canteen.
It is a wonderful way to start the weekends football activities and we look forward to big crowds down at Cromer Park every Friday night.
Id like to reiterate our commitment to ensuring spectators and officials behave in a passionate yet respectful manner on the sideline. Ultimately it is a game of amateur football and we should all support our kids and club with passion but remember It is just a game.
Good luck for the 2018 season and I hope to see you all done at Cromer Park on Grand Final day.
Yours in Football
