Manly Warringah Football Association is proud to announce that Michael O’Shanassy from Harbord FC is the winner of a Meritorious Service Award.
Michael first joined Harbord in 2006 when he registered his son for the U6s. Despite having never played the game, Michael volunteered to coach his son’s team and remained as coach until they were in the U18s.
Every Saturday and Sunday morning during the season, Michael can be seen setting up fields, running the canteen / BBQ, and doing whatever else is required on game days.
Michael has been a constant at the club and is always asking if he can do more to help, whether it’s by attending meetings, fundraising, sorting gear, or the many other things a club needs. As a valued Committee member with varied roles, Michael has also been proactive in securing much needed sponsorship to help the club.
Michael is always encouraging kids to have fun and just enjoy playing. He also helps preseason registrations by hosting ‘come and try’ football clinics in kindergarten classes, encouraging younger players to play our game. Michael has even volunteered to coach junior teams with no family or other relationship ties, teams that were in danger of folding if they couldn’t find a coach.
When he’s not doing any of the above, Michael is also a referee and can be seen refereeing games on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
We congratulate Michael on being the recipient of a Meritorious Service Award.
