40 years ago, in 1982, Avalon Soccer Club was officially born following the amalgamation of Avalon Junior Soccer Club and Avalon United (Senior) Soccer Club.
The MWFA’s most northern club call Careel Bay home and this is where Avalon SC will host their Back to Avalon SC Day, this Saturday 6th August from 1pm-5pm.
The day will see Avalon’s AL1’s men’s team take on Forest Killarney in their last home game of the season and is set to be an entertaining one as last time these two teams met Avalon defeated Forest Killarney 6-1
To keep the celebrations going the club is also hosting a BBQ, drinks and kids’ activities, including a jumping castle, for all coaches, volunteers, sponsors, and past members to enjoy.
President of the club John Kowtan, better known around the football community as JK, cannot wait to celebrate the club and its achievements.
“It’s been a fantastic achievement for our club to hit this milestone and celebrate the amalgamation” JK said.
“I am so proud to be President and to be involved with this great club for so many years. To watch it grow to over 90 teams and approximately 1,200 players has been very rewarding.”
JK and the club are also hoping that the amalgamation celebrations can shed some light on the longer history of football in the Avalon area and are asking anyone with some local knowledge to please reach out.
“1982 was the birth year of our current Avalon Soccer Club but we all know that football was played in our community well before this date.
“One of our goals is to complete a true history timeline and we are hoping this event, BACK TO AVALON, will be the start of compiling this info.”
Congratulation to Avalon Soccer Club on 40 years of amalgamation and enjoy your celebrations this weekend!
