The annual Men’s MWFA Select vs Northern Suburbs Football Association (NSFA) match will be played this Wednesday at 7:30pm at Cromer Park 2 with MWFA looking to retain their title.
With the MWFA having never lost to NSFA over the past seven years of the competition they have a legacy to uphold and history on their side.
The MWFA Select will be fielding a similar side to last year with Ryan Butcher once again coaching the squad.
The 2021 match up ended with a 2-1 victory for MWFA Select, however it was the toughest contest between the two sides since this annual match began.
Last year’s goal scorers Aaron Peters (St Augustines) and Luke Curnow (CC Strikers) will be looking to find the back of the net once again on Wednesday night while Luke Femia (Brookvale) and Matt Smith (CC Strikers) will split the match between the posts.
MWFA will have another fast-paced team this year with plenty of strength in defence, according to Butcher, which will be needed to hold out NSFA, especially Brad Fiedler, who scored the visitors’ goal in last year’s match.
It will be another tough match up but with a home ground advantage MWFA are aiming to raise the trophy and go into their match against Manly United’s First Grade Men on Wednesday 23rd February with a win under their belt.
