MWFA profile: Sipan Berti

A LONG standing friendship with head coach Ross Talarico was the clincher in Sipan Berti joining Narrabeen in the MWFA Premier League this season.

The 21-year-old was on the books of Manly United last year, but became disillusioned with the representative arena.

“I knew Ross well, so when he asked me if I was interested in having a run with Narrabeen, it was an easy decision,” Berti said.

“I felt it was time for a different experience and it (MWFA Premier League) has certainly been good fun.

“The lads at Narrabeen are great, and even though I seem to get kicked every week, you cop the bruises and get on with it.”

Berti could have joined a rival NPL 1 club, or played lower leagues, but travelling across Sydney multiple times a week for training and on match day didn’t interest him.

“Who knows, one day I might go back and play at that level, but for the time being I’m happy at Narrabeen,” he said.

“We started the season slowly and losing became a habit.

“Everyone kept working hard and recently our results have been good.”

Berti is one of the main contenders for the golden boot, although CC Strikers captain Luke Curnow and Wakehurst’s recent signing Sheldon Tweedie are also scoring goals for fun.

And if you fancy one of the best kebabs in Manly, the Beenies goal poacher is your man.

He helps run the family business just off the Corso, walking distance from Hotel Steyne.
