AVALON were the only team to win on Sunday, with Alex Kent’s goal sealing a 1-0 victory against Brookvale at Graham Reserve.

Coach Larry Bates is the first to admit it has been a scratchy campaign from the Reds, but he won’t alter his attacking style.

“We showed good character, it is tough to back up from midweek games,” he said.

“On Sunday we were disciplined in defence against a good Brookvale team, we had to work hard from start to finish.

“Like I keep saying, with so many games in this competition, we have the chance to pick up points on a regular basis.

“I would like to think we are good enough to do so.”

Elsewhere, it was all about stalemates.

Manly Allambie versus Wakehurst finished in a 0-0 draw, as did Seaforth against Manly Vale.

Beacon Hill and Forest Killarney had the bye.
