As has been shown in the recent comprehensive independent review into Sports Grounds, sport on the Northern Beaches is reaching a crisis point. Without action the shortfall of available space to play and enjoy our sport will see participants across all codes facing the prospect of caps in participants and people being turned away by clubs and associationsdue to a lack of available space.
With continued growth is sports – especially in youth and ladies competition, it is vital that more space be made available for sports grounds. The existing fields are chronically over used and the playing surfaces suffer greatly as a result.
Northern Beaches Council have drawn up a draft Sportsground Strategy to tackle this problem.
We implore the council to approve all proposed actions within this strategy to ensure a fair and equitable use of public space and so future generations have access to whatever sport they wish to play.
