BEACON Hill coach Ash Mathieson is adamant his team won’t be overawed when they take on St Augustine’s in the first round of theMWFA Challenge Cup this Sunday at Cromer Park.
On paper, it appears to be a huge mismatch.
Saints won the Cup last year before going on to reach the MWFA Premier League grand final.
Mathieson has taken on a completely new AL/1s squad at Beacon Hill Oval in the off-season, but he may have a few tricks up his sleeve – he used to coach St Augustine’s.
“It is a big challenge, but the boys are looking forward to it,” he said ahead of the 1pm kick-off.
“I think it will be a great gauge to see where we are at.
“We have 28 players under the age of 21, so youth is definitely on our side.
“Ultimately we have nothing to lose, which is always a good spot to be in.”
In other games, Mosman take on Manly Allambie (9am), Dee Why meet Brookvale (9am), Curl Curl do battle with Avalon (11am) and Narrabeen lock horns with Wakehurst (11am).
Harbord Seasiders United entertain Pittwater RSL FC (1pm), Seaforth are also in action against CC Strikers (3pm), and Manly Vale square off versus Forest Killarney (5pm).
