Vale Ted Blackwood

The MWFA Football Community is saddened to hear that Narrabeen Youth Club and MWFA Life Member Ted Blackwood OAM passed away yesterday after a short illness.

Ted was a true pillar of football on the Northern Beaches and a pioneer, especially for his beloved Narrabeen Youth Club and Narrabeen Football Club. He was the founder of the Narrabeen Youth Club in 1965, which is the original name of the now Narrabeen Football Club.

His legacy lives on in numerous ways as a Life Member of the MWFA (awarded in 2005), Narrabeen Youth (Football) Club and Pittwater RSL Club.

Every season, Narrabeen Football Club recognise a Member with the Ted Blackwood Award, which is given to a member of NFC who has provided outstanding service to the Club.

Ted was also honoured by Northern Beaches (Pittwater) Council, with his name adorning the Ted Blackwood Youth and Community Centre at Boondah Reserve. His impact was felt not just in football, but across the broader community, especially for his work and passion for the youth of the area. He will be sorely missed on Junior Grand Final day as he was an annual visitor to the boys and girls junior grand finals.

The MWFA would like to pass on our sincere condolences to the Blackwood family, Narrabeen Football Club and Ted’s family and friends, both inside and outside the football world.

As a mark of respect, all matches involving Narrabeen teams this weekend will honour Ted Blackwood with a minute’s silence.

May he Rest in Peace.
