It is 2023 which means it is officially the year of the Women’s World Cup!
It is the year of football in Australia and the year of female football.
With nearly 8000 female members in our association last season, we are thrilled to see the female game on the big stage right here on home soil.
2023 also marks the year of our very own MWFA Women’s World Cup which will see women under 8’s and women under 11’s teams compete in their own battle for the World Cup trophy.
The tournament teams will be coached by young, up and coming females who will all receive ongoing coaching from MWFA female mentors throughout the 2023 season.
On the field and in charge of the game will be junior female referees. Girls aged 14-16 will undertake a female only referees’ course in early March, with costs covered by the MWFA.
With the Matilda’s playing on the big stage, it is only fair that the MWFA Women’s World Cup players, coaches and referees receive the same treatment and so every game will be played on Cromer Park field 1.
With a grandstand surrounding the field it will be a world cup experience like no other.
The MWFA World Cup games will also be played on the night of the Matilda’s so all players, coaches, referees, and their families can watch their football role models on the big screen at The Far Post (Cromer Park Clubhouse).
More than just a tournament there will be events leading up till kick-off to provide the full World Cup experience.
There are still spots available for female referees (aged 14-16) and coached (aged 16-18) to join the MWFA Women’s World Cup.
Referees and coaches will receive free training and support throughout the season as well as during the MWFA World Cup. It is a great opportunity to learn a new skill and become involved in the game we all love.
