Manly Vale has solidified third position on the MWFA women’s Premier League ladder after a strong 2-0 win over Mosman on Sunday.
In cold, wet and windy conditions at Cromer Park, Manly scored a goal in each half and ran away with a deserved victory.
“I think our girls were too good yesterday,” Vale coach Tony Bruzzano said. “We did the little things really well in testing conditions. It was actually a good match.
“We were very wary of Mosman, they’ve strung a few results together lately and we prepared as well as we could.”
Vale midfielders Samantha Spackman and Georgia Goulding controlled the match in the first half and combined for the first goal in the 30th minute. After Goulding won possession in midfield she dribbled forward and slipped a fine through ball behind a Mosman opponent. From outside the 18-yard box Spackman connected sweetly first time and sent the ball into the top corner of the net.
Goulding came off and Laura Janson stepped into midfield with Spackman and the domination continued. Mosman tried to get a reply with a fast start in the second half but Manly Vale weathered the storm. And came back with a storm of their own.
Twenty minutes into the second half Jules Waugh played provider and Spackman finished again for 2-0. And though Vale had other chances that’s how it finished. Bruzzano said he was happy with the performance backing up from a mid-week catchup game.
“The girls are playing with a bit more confidence now, building up nicely for the second round. And we now prepare for a massive match next week, against top-of-the-table Manly Allambie,” Bruzzano said.
In other games Manly Allambie beat Pittwater RSL 6-0 while Seaforth were equally ruthless crushing Brookvale 6-0.
