Brookvale is coming: Pittwater RSL face biggest challenge of the year

Pittwater v brookvale (18)

Curl Curl (3rd) versus Mosman (5th) is arguably match-of-the-round in this weekend’s MWFA men’s Premier League action and if you can get to Middle Head Oval at 3pm Saturday you are well advised to, the weather is predicted crisp and dry.

Yet over on the northern end of the Peninsula there appears to be a more intriguing fixture when high-flying Brookvale FC (2nd) take on resurgent Pittwater RSL (7th) at Pittwater’s “fortress” Kitchener Park.

While the home team’s results have been patchy at best, several top players have returned for in recent weeks and last weekend they convincingly beat a competition favourite. And Pittwater RSL coach Adam Israel could barely contain his glee.

In a post-match press conference following the 3-0 win over Curl Curl at Abbott Road last Saturday, Israel said he was happy with the result but happier with the performance.

“It’s good to get some bodies back. [Captain] Mitch [Mercado] back on the pitch. Cam White, outstanding. I could name the whole team. Everyone was outstanding. Really, really happy,” Israel said.

Yet Brookvale appears to be a beast. In 12 rounds they’ve won nine games and scored 28 goals, conceding half that number. Only CC Strikers (36 for, 13 against) have a superior goal difference.
Israel will no doubt impress upon his players the same sentiments he expressed following the Curl Curl victory.

“When we compete,” Israel said, “we are very hard to beat.”
