The MWFA women’s select side takes on Manly United his Thursday evening in the annual MWFA Challenge Cup clash at Cromer Park. Kick-off is at 7pm.

Manly are coming off a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Sydney Olympic. For MWFA, their latest clash was an exciting nil-all draw, with the eventual result being a 5-3 penalty shootout defeat.

When you look at MUFC’s attack, it’s hard to go past former W-League player Caitlyn Jarvie. The 30-year-old is an experienced leader within the side and will be a key player in attempting to break down MWFA’s resilient defence.

She helped start Manly’s four-goal comeback effort vs Olympic, with a superb effort going right into the back of the net. She will keep MWFA goalkeeper Jerri Gerich constantly guessing whenever she’s got the ball at her feet.

For MWFA, you can never overlook what Beacon Hill midfielder Beth Sweeney brings in terms of her attacking prowess. In last week’s clash with Northern Suburbs, she helped create a lot of dangerous chances.

Who could forget when she calmly stood up and converted the spot-kick in extra time during 2019’s semi-final against Manly Vale? A goal that delivered her side a Grand Final berth no less. She has the potential to run havoc in this game.

Another MUFC player on deck is Emily Minett. The Wakehurst Junior worked her way into Manly and has only gone upwards during her time with the club. During the latest pre-COVID season, she banged in eight goals.

Her pace and ability to close down on opposition defences quickly means she’ll be a constant threat throughout this clash.

In defence for MWFA, the previously mentioned Jerri Gerich will be a key player in this hotly contested encounter.

She made a number of good saves last week, while she wasn’t afraid to put her body on the line as she extinguished numerous attacking chances for the opposition. Expect her to step up to the plate and do what needs to be done to keep her side in the game.

If you love Northern Beaches Football, then you’ll love this game. This is a perfect way to spend your Thursday evening.
