Forest, Mosman and Brookvale hoping for some magic in the FFA cup By Chris Curulli

ffa cup 2020

Manly Warringah Football Associations three representatives in the FFA Cup round two will all enjoy home ties this weekend as they dream of kicking off a magical run in the nationwide competition.

AL/1s side Forest Killarney will take to their home pitch Melwood Oval on Saturday night at 7pm where they host St George Football Association club Lugarno FC.

Two fixtures will also take place on Cromer Park #2 as Mosman FC host South Districts Football Associations Fairfield Bulls SC on Saturday at 6pm, before reigning Football NSW Champion of Champions Brookvale welcome Northern Suburbs Football Association outfit North Sydney United the following night at 7pm.

Last season, a couple of giant-killing MWFA sides sent shockwaves throughout the competition.

Dee Why FC eliminated State League opposition on two occasions, toppling Balmain Tigers and Fraser Park FC on their way to the fifth round of the competition.

Pittwater RSL so nearly exceeded the Swans feat in a memorable round six clash with NPL NSW 1 Premiers Wollongong Wolves, where the MWFA Premier League side led 1-0 until the final ten minutes saw the team coached by Luke Wilkshire prevail 2-1.

Forest Killarney secretary Chris Lynch is looking forward to the clubs first taste of the magic of the cup on home soil.

This is only our second year in the competition, and last year we played rounds three and four away so it will be great to have a home game at Melwood, he said.

Fingers crossed we have a good amount of people come down to watch, we have a lot of juniors registering now and our numbers are bigger than last year so hopefully that means we can get a fair amount support for the boys.

Its a great opportunity for our young guys to showcase themselves and a chance to start playing outside of the area, putting Forest on the map.

Forest coach Michael Vescio expects Lugarno to pose a significant threat but knows his side are more than capable of securing passage to round three.

Im expecting them to come out and press us to try and get an early lead, he anticipates.

We just need to stick to our game plan, defend as a unit and just use our speed up front to try and hurt them.

We have a few boys out with injury but what we didnt have in previous years is the amount of squad depth.

We picked up quite a few solid players in the offseason so Im sure we will be competitive.
