A late goal flurry saw Manly United FC trump the Manly Warringah Football Association Womens Select team 4-1 at Cromer Park on Wednesday night.

Manly United opened the scoring midway through the first half through their captain Chloe OBrien, before a long-range strike from Ruby Jackson doubled their advantage.

MWFA Select started the second period brightly and were duly rewarded as an impressive strike from distance from Beacon Hills Nina Hall found the back of the net with 20 minutes to play.

Then as the side coached by Manly Vales Roland Winter and Tony Bruzzano pushed hard for an equaliser they were hit with a pair of Manly United sucker-punches.

Inside the final quarter of an hour Lily Schnitzler and Sunny Franco struck in quick succession to secure the result for the National Premier Leagues NSW outfit.

Manly United head coach Chris Williams appreciated the challenge offered up by the MWFA select side.

Credit to the MWFA and their players, coaches and clubs – I thought the Select side were excellent and really well organised, he reflected.

They worked really hard for each other and made life difficult for our players.

It was a really good hit-out for us. We’ve had a pretty hectic preseason schedule so it was again good to get some minutes in the legs and we definitely learnt a bit about our players and the team.
