MWFA profile: Avalon's women's 18/1s

AVALON’s 18/1s have won trophies and titles for fun the past few years – but it is their humble nature on the pitch which pleases their coach Jud Harrison.

Last Sunday the Lady Reds won their State Cup decider, with a goal from Kira Johnson enough to see off Shellharbour 1-0 in a high quality final at Valentine Sports Park.

Locally in 2019, the ladies have been ruthless – played 12 and you guessed it, won 12.

“The girls have been together a long time, they know each other very well technically,” Harrison said this week.

“They work hard and deserve all the success which comes their way.

“For me, the best part about our team is no egos – it is always the team first and we always respect the opposition, no matter the score.

“Any hint of gloating and we replace players – we are all about enjoying the game and having a wholesome attitude.”

When it comes to goals for the rest of the season, they are lofty – but with this squad, definitely achievable.

“It would be great to stay unbeaten locally, we haven’t lost to another team from the MWFA since the under-12s, we are all proud of that statistic,” Harrison said.

“Beyond that, going back to back in the NSW Champion of Champions would be nice as well.
