MANLY Allambie showed they have the potential to challenge for the titlein their first season after toppling Avalon 2-1 on Sunday.
Chloe Guthrie supplied both goals for the hosts at Millers Reserve, and coach Kyle Cannon was beaming at fulltime.
“Avalon are the yardstick and they also killed us in the (MWFA Challenge) Cup earlier this year, from memory it was 7-1,” the Manly Allambie bosssaid.
“The girls had not forgotten that game, they wanted revenge.
“Even when Avalon scored early we didn’t panic, in fact it made us more determined.
“I thought we pressed well and in the end got the result.”
After winning the MWFA Challenge Cup and grand final last year, the injury hit Reds have slumped to three straight defeats in the league.
Other games saw Beacon Hill outclass Forest Killarney 4-0, Seaforth and Wakehurst shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw and Brookvale versus Manly Vale finished 2-2.
