GOALS in each half from gun striker Matt Cooper saw Dee Why beat Curl Curl 2-1 on Sunday in round one of the MWFA Challenge Cup at Cromer Park.

Cooper scored early on for the Swans, only to see the defending cup winners equalise viaa slick finish from Tyson Masters.

With the game in the balance, that man Cooper once again found the back of the net with 70 minutes played.

Curly pushed for an equaliser, but the MWFA 2017 Premier League grand finalists held firm.

“It was a hard hitting game, in the end our physicality won out,” Cooper said.

“Curly are a good team with plenty of young, fit players.

“I thought we deserved the win overall.”

Other games saw Beacon Hill shock Avalon 2-1, Brookvale did just enough to beat St Augustine’s 3-2, Wakehurst outclassed Mosman 3-1, CC Strikers edged out Manly Vale 1-0, Harbord Seasiders United stunned Seaforth 4-2, Pittwater RSL FC battled to a 1-0 win versus a gallantBTH Raiders and Narrabeen outgunned Manly Allambie 3-1.

In the women’s MWFA Challenge Cup semi-finals, Manly Vale dusted Seaforth 3-1 and Avalon were ruthless in a 5-1 triumph versus Wakehurst.
