C-License Registration & Female Scholarship Applications Closing Soon

Football NSW · Aug 16, 2019 · Leave a Comment

The upcoming Youth C-Licence being held at Cromer Park in September and October is only 3 weeks away now, and there are still places available, however we encourage anyone interested to register as soon as possible to secure their spot.

Dates, more information and the registration link are available here:http://www.mwfa.com.au/2019/07/c-licence-at-cromer-park-september-october-2019/

Applications for the MWFA Female Coaching Scholarship Program also close even sooner on Friday August 23.

2018 Female Coaching Scholarship recipient Imogen Carlisle had this to say about her experience last year:

The C-Licence has been highly beneficial in deepening my football knowledge. Specifically it has allowed me to develop a stronger ability to analyse football matches and identify how to combat oppositional strategies. Additionally, it has refined my ability the implement clear checklists and procedures for running effective training sessions. As a CCC mentor at Forest Killarney, I have had the pleasure of using this knowledge to assist our sub-junior coaches in improving their organisational and self-reflection practices. As a PDHPE teacher, I have also had to opportunity of applying the concepts learned through the C-Licence course to promote the growth of female football programs at Killara High School where I work. We have seen a significant increase in the participation numbers in our girls football club and had our U15 team reach the quarter finals of the Bill Turner Trophy and Semi-Finals of the NSW Futsal School Championship for the Northern Beaches region. I would highly recommend all females interested in strengthening their football knowledge and coaching practices to apply for the scholarship.

Mosman CCC Club of the Month for July

Football NSW · Aug 8, 2019 · Leave a Comment

The CCC program is now in its third year in Manly Warringah, with the majority of clubs in the association proactively providing coach education and coach support/mentoring. This is something everyone in MWFA can be proud of, as most other parts of the country are still looking to implement this program.

CCCs, or Club Coach Coordinators, traditionally fill the role of Technical Director, Director of Coaching or Head of Coaching. Rather than creating an additional role, this program is simply a case of recognising the work they already do and giving them a consistent title from an MWFA and FFA perspective. This is a vital role at a club, as it provides coaches with ongoing guidance and advice during the season in their environment with their players, to compliment official coaching courses, or at least encourage coaches to reflect on their coaching and consider taking up further development opportunities. The most important thing is that the players have fun, develop their skills and have a positive experience in the game, and our CCCs deserve a lot of credit for the work they have done over the last couple of years in providing this support and helping their coaches achieve these outcomes.

For July, we want to give special recognition to Mosman FC.

Mosman have offered an extensive and wide range of development opportunities for their coaches this season, including hosting an ALDI MiniRoos Certificate, Skill Training Certificate and Game Leader course, as well as several in-house coach workshops. CCC James Webb was involved in delivering all of these, while also contributing to several other courses run by MWFA at Cromer Park earlier this year, and in general he has set a great example in terms of his commitment to improving himself as well as enhancing the programs run at the club.

Earlier this week, Mosman hosted its final workshop for the season in conjunction with Eugene Lawrenz from MWFA, which was well attended given the time of year, and very well received by both the coaches who came along, as well as the players who participated enthusiastically in the session. The club will be posting more details on their facebook page soon regarding the tips, key messages and feedback received on the night for other coaches in the club to pick up.

Mosman also provides a lot of support for coaches at their training sessions, with several noteworthy initiatives such as sending out weekly tips and suggestions, regularly having mentors available to offer guidance and assistance (who also set up the pitches for the parent volunteers before they arrive), as well as teams with multiple parent coaches working together for more collaboration, benefitting both the players and those coaches. The club also has a trainee coach program which has helped several young coaches develop their skills and experience, who also support teams at their training sessions as well.

MWFA is pleased to provide Mosman, like it did for Avalon, Dee Why and Curl Curl earlier this season, with coaching equipment from Pro Football Group as a reward for their efforts so far this season, which they can now pass on to their coaches to use. This includes several tactical whiteboards, pop up goals and flat training markers.

If you are a coach at Mosman and would like to receive support at your training from a CCC, please contact James Webb or Alex Epakis.

For more information about the CCC program, please see here: https://www.playfootball.com.au/coach/ccc-program

If you arent sure if your club has any CCCs, we would definitely encourage you to find out!

Coaching Workshop: Pre-Season Training

Football NSW · Aug 6, 2019 · Leave a Comment

  • What is the best way to develop fitness during the pre-season?
  • Is it endurance running, sprints, gym work, or something else?
  • How can you also develop teamwork and skill at the same time though?
  • And how can you achieve all of this with limited sessions?
  • Do your players also need to train with more intensity?
  • But do you also need to ensure you prevent injuries?

Following the success of recent workshops on trails/grading and dealing with pressure, where there was a combined total of more than 100 attendees, MWFA is pleased to offer another workshop during the off-season on pre-season training, where all of the above questions will be answered.

Date: Monday October 21
Time: 7pm to 9pm
Venue: MWFA Clubhouse

This workshop is completely free, however registration is required here:https://manlyunited.wufoo.com/forms/mwfa-2019-coach-workshops-registration/

Please ensure you arrive at least 10 minutes early to sign in so the workshop can start and finish on time.

2019 Female Scholarship Winner Announced

Football NSW · Aug 2, 2019 · Leave a Comment

MWFA are excited to announce that Sharna Barras and Catriona Ormond have been awarded the Female Coaching Scholarship for 2019.

This scholarship program is offered as part of the MWFAs commitment to increasing the number of female coaches on the Northern Beaches. It was a tough decision on who to select with 8 very strong applications being received, but we are confident that both Sharna and Catriona will make full use of this opportunity and become great role models for other female coaches. Sharna is currently a CCC at CC Strikers, while Catriona coaches at Seaforth, and both will receive funding to attend the FFA C-Licence at Cromer Park starting next week, along with ongoing mentoring, opportunities to develop new skills, and give back by sharing what theyll learn with other female players and coaches.

I am so thankful and excited for the opportunity to complete my C-Licence. I am looking forward to being able to pass on this knowledge to coaches and younger players.

  • Sharna Barras

I feel fortunate and privileged to have been given the opportunity to gain my C-Licence. Through further education and training I will increase my skills and knowledge and therefore improve my coaching. I am looking forward to being able to guide and encourage our female coaches of tomorrow.

  • Catriona Ormond

MWFA would like to congratulate both coaches and we wish them the best of luck with the upcoming C-Licence course. We would also like to encourage the other applicants and all other female coaches to continue their development, and MWFA will continue to look for more ways to provide you with support in the 2020 season.

MWFA 2019 FEMALE COACHING SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN

As part of the MWFAs commitment to increasing the number of female coaches on the Northern Beaches, we are pleased to once again offer a Female Coaching Scholarship Program in 2019.

Two female coaches with a few years of coaching experience will be selected to receive funding to attend the FFA C-Licence at Cromer Park in either September/October 2019 (Youth), or February 2020 (Senior), depending on their interest.

The funding for the scholarship will be in two instalments: 50% will be paid by the MWFA at the start of the course, with the remaining 50% paid for by the coach or their respective club. Once the scholarship recipient has completed all of the Scholarship Program tasks in the 2020 season, the remaining 50% will be reimbursed.

In addition to the C-Licence course, the Scholarship Program will include ongoing mentoring, opportunities to develop new skills and give back by sharing what theyve learnt with other female coaches, and promoting female coaches in the sport.

“Following the completion of my C Licence, I have a greater understanding of implementing the 4 core skills in training and games. I have adjusted the way I approach training and games, and I think the extra knowledge and skills have lifted my confidence as a coach and played a significant role in the success of the W11 Pittwater team who I coach.”
– Jane Lillycrop (2018 Female Scholarship Recipient)
