Northern Beaches born and bred, Stuart Davis grew up playing for Seaforth FC, and has since returned full circle in coaching roles with both his son and daughter. They are now U11 and U8 respectively, and he commenced his journey as a coach alongside theirs when they were in the U6s.
“Being able to support young boys and girls at the beginning of their football journey has given me great joy, along with the added bonus of spending time supporting my own children’s growth in the game.”
What started as a way to give back to the club and community quickly blossomed into a desire to expand his own knowledge of both the game and the nuances of coaching itself. Stu began with attending the MiniRoos coaching course through MWFA, and since then has attended multiple others, including the Skill Training Certificate and various workshops held at both Seaforth, Cromer Park and other clubs. Subsequently, Stu decided to participate in the Future Coaches Program towards the end of 2022.
“I am fortunate enough to have a background in teaching which provides added support in engaging kids in the game, but I feel luck to have the chance to join the Future Coaches Program to push my coaching even further.”
Being involved in this program with many other likeminded coaches and seeing the journey many of them are on triggered Stu to reflect on his own path in football, and consider how else he can given back to the game, not just in his current coaching roles, but also any other areas such as supporting other coaches at his club, and even within school programs.
“I’m looking forward to continuing to build on my knowledge of coaching in the hope that I can continue to develop the love of the game in our younger generations, but then also supporting parents like myself who give up their time to coach local teams, as they play an important role in giving players the right kind of environment to develop the love for football.”
MWFA is looking forward to seeing how Stu is able to leave a mark on community football through coaching but also helping other coaches moving forward as well.
