David Brennan Inducted as MWFA Life Member

At the recent MWFA Annual General Meeting, David Brennan was awarded Life Membership for his services to football in the Manly Warringah area.

David was Vice President – Juniors on the MWFA Management Committee from 2006 until 2019, when the new Board structure commenced.

In this role that David was passionate about ensuring decisions made were in the best interests of all junior participant’s enjoyment.

This included participation, inclusiveness, fairness in competitions and making changes when required to keep younger players in the game longer.

David has continued to be an active and essential member of the Grading Committee. He has actively led the grading committee, including the preparation of the grading protocols and information that has been essential in improving the information available to assist the grading committee.

David dedicates significant hours to this task covering all age groups that require grading from under 12’s right through to the oldest age groups and includes all grades and divisions.

David also provides invaluable insight and analysis with the sub junior grades when it comes to regrading those teams for all age groups after the initial few rounds of the year.

A progressive thinker David has always upheld the MWFA ideals to improve the experience of all players, young or old, Premier League or Division 8 as his primary goal while being unafraid to propose new or different ideas, no matter how different they are from custom and practice.

David has also been on the Committee at Wakehurst for 15 years, since 2008 as Vice President – Youth and now also Treasurer. He’s also been Competition Secretary.

He has also been a key part of the re-establishment of the Wakehurst Summer Football competition. He has used the Summer Football competition to test the some of his innovative ideas such as the Swiss System which is a round-robin- style tournament where rather than each competitor playing every other competitor, each competitor plays only other competitors that have won a similar number of games.

David has an enviable coaching record at Wakehurst FC, winning many Major & Minor Premierships, two State Cups and two Champion of Champions. He has also coached two teams in the same year at least 8 times.
