The Manly Warringah Football Association has applied discounts amounting to $825,000 for all players ahead of the 2022 season, following savings made due to the COVID-19 disruption in 2021.

The $825,000 was accumulated by scaling back costs and saving expenses due to the COVID shortened season with lower-than-expected referee fees, reduction in fees payable to Northern Beaches and Mosman Council’s for use of fields and Football NSW insurance.

The financial return for players will come through a one-off reduction in playing fees for all 2022 registered players.

The discount has already been deducted from the MWFA registration package when players log into Play Football to register for the 2022 season.

The discount applies to all players, including those who played in 2021 and new players to the MWFA 2022 competitions.

The fee reduction differs for each age groups as the figures have been calculated to reflect where the savings have originated from.

This means, for example, the savings in referee fees do not apply to the U6s as they do not have referees and did not pay for them at the start of the year.

The fee reductions per age group (2022 age groups) are as follows:

U6 – U9: $26.50 discount

U10 – U11: $28.50 discount

U12 – U15: $37.50 discount

U16: $40.50 discount

U18: $51.00 discount

U21: $72.00 discount

Men’s PL’s: $90.00 discount

Women’s PLs: $72.00 discount

Men’s AL1’s: $78.00 discount

WAL1’s: $72.00 discount

Men’s AL2 and below: $62.00 discount

Women’s AL2 and below: $62.00 discount

Men’s O35 / O45: $62.00 discount

Women’s O30/ O45: $62.00 discount

The MWFA undertook a similar task in 2020 and returned $553,000 to the 17 clubs and assisted the Manly Warringah Football Referees Association.

This achieved a break-even position, making sure all MWFA affiliated clubs could recoup losses due to the 2020 lockdowns.

The Clubs and MWFA decided that the 2021 savings should be passed back to players after another COVID disrupted season through reduced 2022 registration fees.

The MWFA would like to thank the volunteers at the clubs for working so hard in 2021 to get teams and players onto the pitch every weekend for the second year in a row.

The past two years have been very difficult for volunteers and the MWFA collectively salute each and every one of them.

The MWFA look forward to welcoming all new and returning players for the 2022 season as we look to build on last year’s record registration number of 19,826.
