Roselea Rex, Brisney Utd and Primates were all crowned Oktoberfest of Walking Football champions in the inaugural Oktoberfest of Walking Football tournament which took over Cromer Park last month.

16 teams travelled to Cromer Park to compete in the very first Oktoberfest of Walking Football, including players and referees from Queensland.

The walking football tournament saw 130 players across 3 divisions invade Cromer Park for what was a great day of football.

With five fields running all day over 120 games were played across the O50 men’s & O35 women’s division, O65 men and O40 women division and the social competition.

Local teams Pittwater RSL and Mona Vale Bowlo were joined by teams from the Central Coast, Wollongong, and Ballina as well as players who travelled interstate from Brisbane for the tournament.

Playing small sided 15-minute games there was plenty of action to be seen and most importantly a lot of fun was had.

A chance to continue to play the sport they love and participate in a football tournament there was nothing but positive comments about the event.

“It was a great day. It was the first time we have run anything like this, and it was fantastic to see that the love of the game doesn’t stop even when the running does” said MWFA organiser Alysha Rowe.

In the spirit of walking football, a best and fairest award was also presented on the day and had been voted by the referees who scored each team on a scale of 1-3 for every game.

A close competition it was the Berowra Vipers were named best and fairest for the day.

The tournament was topped off by a complimentary lunch and enjoying an afternoon on the deck of The Far Post, Cromer Park’s clubhouse.

A successful inaugural event the MWFA would like to thank Nick Bron and Ian Stuart for their assistance in the organisation of the day as well to all the referees and volunteers who made the day possible.

A special mention to Ken Haikines who travelled from Queensland to referee the whole tournament.
