As MWFA’s Future Coaches Program is about to commence its fourth year, Coach Development Manager Eugene Lawrenz is looking forward to working with and guiding a new batch of committed and eager coaches, with the network of those who have been involved in this program set to expand to include over 40 people.
“Every year of Future Coaches is an evolution for me, pushing the bar a little bit higher for myself while also trying to improve the program in every little way I can. I also enjoy bringing coaches from previous years back again as mentors for the new participants so they can share what they learned and help the new intake get an understanding of the level.” Eugene said.
The Future Coaches Program brings together coaches with a wide variety of backgrounds, experience, and ambitions, but who all have one thing in common: the desire and commitment to becoming a better coach. The group includes coaches still only early into their coaching journey, all the way through to some who have coached or been involved in the sport for decades.
“When you put that many like-minded coaches together in a room and challenge them to help each other improve, regardless of their qualifications or level of experience, great things can happen. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone grow throughout the journey this year, and pushing those who are returning even further along in their development.” Eugene added.
Many of the coaches who participated in the 2021 program have since taking on new opportunities, including working for MWFA as a Coach Developer, coaching at Manly United, working in Football Australia programs, or taking on new Coach Development roles with their clubs.
Coaches learn various references that can be applied to all sorts of different situations, while improving their football knowledge and coaching ability through challenging discussions and problem solving scenarios. There are also networking opportunities both within the group and through several special guests who attend, while many new friendships are also often created that last well beyond the initial 12 week commitment.
Applications for the 2022 Future Coaches Program close on Sunday October 9.
