The chanceto play in the MWFA Premier League with his son Harry cheering him on from the sideline is what coaxed Stefano Teghini out of retirement – again.
Now 33, the decorated Pittwater RSL FC marksman recently returned to the pitch, striking instant fear into plenty of opposition defences.
While he hasn’t managed to find the back of the net yet across three rounds,Teghini looms as the x-factor for coach Adam Israel as he chases a title and grand final honours.
“I’ve taken Harry down to watch a few games this year, and he kept asking me what it was like to play in the (MWFA) Premier League,”the clinical striker said.
“I’m very fortunate to have a supportive wife (Jess), so after she gave me the green light to play again, I started rocking up to training.
“To be honest I wouldn’t say I’m in great shape, but I never was when I was playing in my late 20s and early 30s.
“I missed the banter of the boys, it is good to be back and hopefully that first goal is around the corner.”
Teghini has kept himself at a’relatively’ good level of fitness by playing futsal midweek and social softball on Sunday’s.
“I have two main aims – to contribute to the team and avoid injury,” he said.
“I’m still very competitive, I hate losing.
“Scoring a goal in front of Harry would be great, but I have some catching up to do – last week he scored 10 goals in a game for Pittwater in the under-7s team I help coach.”
It seems the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree when it comes to the Teghini’s in front of goal.
Don’t be surprised if the father of three ends up scoring crucial goals over the next few weeks for his beloved Pitts – after all, he has been getting the job done in the final third stretching back to 2004.
