THESkill Acquisition Program (SAP) Gala Day set down for this weekend at Valentine Sports Park has been cancelled.

It was going to cater for under-9s and under-10s boys as well as girls SAP under-10s, but the constant recent rain has left the grass pitches unplayable.

Manly United and the Manly Warringah Football Association planned to send a handful of teams to compete.

“Obviouslyit is disappointing, I know how much the kids were looking forward to it,” Manly United SAP spokesperson Dusan Mihajlovic said.

“Not much you can do about it, the rain has been relentless the past few weeks.

“Player safety always comes first.”

In a furtherblow, the popular two day junior event cannot be rescheduled due to other challenges within the 2017 Football NSW calendar.

A second Gala Day for these three age groups is planned for July 29 and 30.

Mihajlovic has turned his attention to the SAP Gala Day for the under-11s and under-12s boys, which will be staged at the home of Football NSW on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2 from 8.30am to approximately 5.30pm.

It will also incorporategirls from the under-12 SAP.

“It is a great event, hopefully our young players do well,” he said.

“Playing the best talent from all over NSW is a wonderful opportunity to measure themselves as footballers.”
