The wait is over – football is back

Return to play summary Level C

The wait is over and this weekend we will be able to return to play football matches.

We are also able to resume full contact training from Wednesday night (July 1).

You will find attached the guidelines, which have been put in place by MWFA and the 17 clubs, in consultation with Football NSW and the NSW Government.

These guidelines have been implemented as part of the NSW Government’s return to community sport and we all need to remain vigilant so we continue to move forward and not retreat backwards with another spike in cases – as has been the case in Victoria.

Please take the time to have a look through the guidelines but some key points are:

  1. You MUST stay away from training / matches if, in the past 14 days you have:
      • Been unwell or had flu-like symptoms
      • Been in contact with a known COVID-19 case
      • Experienced any sudden loss of smell or taste
      • Are at a high risk from a health perspective, including the elderly and people with pre-existing medical conditions
  1. Ensure we practice good hygiene and hand washing
  2. Maintain social distancing (especially parents and those watching games)
  3. Don’t share any clothing or equipment
  4. All clubs have agreed NOT to use dressing rooms for the first month
  5. Public toilets will be open at grounds and regularly cleaned by Council but we ask players to arrive at games dressed and ready to play

I would also ask that you please accept and follow the directions and information of your clubs and club volunteers. Our Club volunteers (Presidents, committee members, coaches, managers) have worked very hard to get us to this point so please be mindful of the effort they have put in.

Also, keep in mind that the 2020 season is going to be different.

I’d also like to take the opportunity to thank all of our 18,500 players and their families for the incredible patience and understanding that has been shown by everyone as we have worked our way through the COVID-19 lockdown and disruption.

We have put together a season where our goal has been to organise as many matches and opportunities to play matches for all of our players. We understand some people may not be able to play some matches due to midweek games and an extension of the season, but we have tried to maximise the season under unique circumstances.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy your football this weekend.

Remember to maintain social distancing and remain COVID-Safe.

New MWFA website

Manly Warringah Football Association is pleased to announce that we have today launched a newly designed website – www.mwfa.com.au

The website has been redesigned, in partnership with Football NSW, to provide a better user experience for our players while maintaining the core functions of the website.

We have also changed the focus of our “stories” for the new website with young local journalist Christ Curulli highlighting the hard work put in by volunteers at clubs as well as human interest stories.

We will still list and point out the Men’s and Women’s Premier League results but the focus will shift to the junior and volunteer aspects of our competitions.

2020 COVID-19 grounds maps

We have put together maps to act as a guide for the best place for players, match officials, substitutes, parents/spectators etc to congregate at each ground so we can practice social distancing.

These can be found at the newly launched MWFA website www.mwfa.com.au

2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup

What an amazing announcement last week with Australia and New Zealand winning the right to host the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

The MWFA has always been a leader in women’s and girls football and we will be working hard to make sure we can play an integral role in what will be a massive event and opportunity for football in Australia.

The Northern Beaches boasts 5% of the entire female football participation base across Australia so with 1 in 20 female football players living on the Northern Beaches, we will lead the charge as we move towards 2023.
