During July, Sporting organisations support the 'Call to Arms' ...... help us tackle cancer.... An initiative set up by the NSW Cancer Council in response to mens cancer. This year Dee Why Football Club have decided to register into the event and on the 31st July 2010, the team shall wear a yellow kit instead of the clubs traditional Royal Blue when the team plays Avalon in the Annual Rhino Cup Clash.
Avalon are joining with DYFC and will be collecting donated money on the day from their home ground, Careel Bay and shall donate the collection to the campaign. “Dee Why FC Sponsorship and Community Officer Nathan Radford came up with the idea of the yellow kit after seeing Manly Allambie's success with their pink strip worn in support of breast cancer awareness last season and thought it would be a great advancement on the traditional Yellow armbands that are worn for the the ‘Call to Arms Campaign’” said Club President Glenn Brown. “As the oldest club on the Peninsula we want to support any worthy cause like this one. Cancer is the biggest killer of males in Australia every year and I think everyone has been affected by this through friends and family. I encourage everybody to come down and not only support the “call to Arms” campaign but also to see some fantastic football. "The opportunity to tie it in with our annual Rhino Cup day is fantastic and I can't thank Darrell Navaro from Rhino Sports enough. He has been a great supporter of both Dee Why FC and this campaign, producing the yellow shirts for the game this weekend and providing the prize for the winning Rhino Cup team. In fact all of our club sponsors are helping out with this worthy cause. Bioglan, our major sponsor, are also right behind us in raising funds, even though their logo will be missing from the one off kit this weekend. "A big thank you also must go to the MWFA who approved the kit change straight away and are always right behind good causes like these.” This game against Avalon is Dee Why’s biggest home game of the year and will feature halftime entertainment from DY Juniors and raffles on the day with proceeds being used to support ‘Call to Arms’.
