Manly United Football Club and the Manly Warringah Football Association is proud to announce that three players have progressed from the Association Youth League teams in 2018 to the Manly United Boys Youth League for 2019.

Eric Siqueira (U14s), Jedh Curtis (U15s) and Lucas van de Scheur (U16s) have all been selected in the Manly United teams for 2019 after stand out performances in the AYL in 2018.

The elevation of the trio is another positive endorsement of the MWFAs decision to enter teams into the Football NSW Association Youth League in 2018.

The AYL was introduced to the Northern Beaches football pathway to give more local players the opportunity to play representative football and lessen the gap between the Boys Youth League and local MWFA competitions.

This is tremendous news for Eric, Jedh and Lucas and also for the AYL program, said MWFA President Jeff Smit. The AYL has been a huge success in 2018 and the elevation of these three boys to BYL in 2019 is another ringing endorsement.

Throughout the year the feedback has been positive from all players and parents that the AYL had offered all players a good opportunity to step up to representative football and these selections show that it is a great way for players to stay in touch and progress through the player development pathway.

Id like to congratulate all AYL players on a great season, Eric, Jedh and Lucas for their selections in the Boys Youth League program and Manly United for the way they have worked with the MWFA to implement the program.

Football will only grow on the Northern Beaches if we all work together and this is a great example of that cohesive unity that is so important.

Manly United Technical Director Andrew Christiansen echoed those sentiments and encouraged as many young players as possible to attend the trials for the 2019 Association Youth League sides, commencing on 4 November.

Eric, Jedh and Lucas have earned their places in the Manly United Boys Youth League through their performances in training and matches throughout the AYL season as well as the recent BYL trials, Christiansen said.

We kept a close eye on the development of the players in the AYL and we were incredibly happy with the first season and the standard of football. Eric in particular, was so strong in the AYL that he was retained straight into the BYL without having to attend the trials.

The AYL is an important part of the Manly United system and we would like to see as many talented young players from the MWFA competitions come down to the trials from November 4.

The Association Youth League includes teams in the Boys U13, U14, U15 and U16 age groups and play matches against Association representative teams from all over Sydney (Sutherland, St George, Central Coast, Blacktown, Football South Coast, Macarthur, Nepean, Southern Districts and Gladesville Hornsby).

AYL teams train twice a week at Cromer Park under qualified and driven coaches, who are part of the Manly United coaching structure, with opportunities for players and teams to take part in cross-training with Manly United BYL sides.

Players must meet one of the following the criteria to be eligible for the AYL teams:

  • Live within the MWFA boundaries
  • Played with one of the 17 MWFA Clubs in 2018
  • Played with the MWFA AYL teams in 2018
