MANLY United skipper Jamie Lobb believes tomorrow night’s friendly against the MWFA Select Squad is the perfect opportunity for a number offresh faces to show they are genuine first graders.

New recruit Daniel Alessi will start, withthe likes of George Firth and Mitchell Rooke alsotipped toplay a role at Cromer Park.

I’m abig fan of the concept and they (Select Squad) have a few ex-Manly boys on their team sheet, so I’m sure they will feel they have a point to prove, Lobb said.

At the moment we have roughly 20 players to choose from, it is a nice headache for (coach) Paul Dee.

Everyone is fit and most of the boys don’t have any niggles, which is great a few weeks out from our first game.

Dylan McAllister has looked sharp the past few weeks in particular, and some of our younger guys like Kieren Paull and Sam Wilson are in terrific shape.

It will be good to see where we are at as a team and we won’t take them lightly, from memory we only won by a goal last season, we know it will be a tough game.

This year also sees the Select Game concept filter down into the youth ranks with the introduction of the Association Youth League (AYL) allowing MWFA (AYL) to take on the Manly United Boys Youth League in the U13, U14, U15 and U16 age groups.

The matches kick off at 5pm with the U13 game on Cromer Park No. 5 and the U14s playing on Cromer No. 1. That will be followed at 6.15pm by the U15s on Cromer Park No. 5 and the U16s on Cromer Park No. 1.

Kick-off for the main game is 7.45pm with entry free for all spectators, with theBBQ and bar open from 5pm.

United will back up on Sunday in another pre-season trial against fellow NPL NSW 1 opponents Sydney FC on home soil from 7pm.
