Champion of Champions update

PITTS WIN

PITTWATER RSL FC had to display their trademark fighting spirit in Sunday’s 3-2 win against Phoenix FC in the last 16 of the NSW Champion of Champions.

The Greens went 1-0 up early thanks to a goal from Simon Cummings but then found themselves 2-1 down at halftime.

Facing a shock tournament exit in the All Age Men’s Division, Max Bogunovic scored a great team goal to make it 2-2 on the hour mark, with Pitts skipper Charlie Fyfe then slotting home a late winner.

Overall our concentration wasnt great, Fyfe said when reflecting on the contest at Cromer Park.

Phoenix were physical, you can see they would have bullied teams all year over in the (Eastern Suburbs) competition.

We just had to be patient, in the end it was job done.

Ten other MWFA teams won through to the quarter-finals on Sunday, October 8, with venues still to be announced.

Standout performances included Avalons 16s girls outclassing South West Slopes 6-0; CC Strikers 18 girls beat Queens Park 5-0, St Augustines 13 boys beat Redfern Raiders 4-1 and Manly Vale’s All Age Women’s team outlasted Sydney University 1-0.

In a huge upset, Wakehursts previously unbeaten over-35 men were sent packing, beaten 3-2 by Mascot Kings.
