CURL Curl are no longer football minnows on the northern beaches.

It follows an epic MWFA Challenge Cup final on Wednesday night at Cromer Park, where the ambitious squad from Abbott Rd beat Wakehurst 2-1.

Striker Tyson Masters was the man of the hour, scoring the winner at the death after a pinpoint cross from teammate Ross Cummings.

Entering the decider as underdogs, Masters gave Curly the lead in the second half, only to see the Tigers equalise in the 88th minute.

With the game appearing to be heading to a penalty shootout, Masters delivered, finding the back of the net from six yards.

Seminara, who virtually formed his squad from scratch ahead of the 2016 season, was almost in disbelief at the final whistle.

It still hasnt sunk in, Im so happy for the players and the club, he said.

We want to put Curly on the map as a football club.

The nucleus of the squad is young the aim is get even stronger over the next few years.

Wakehurst boss Paul Juergens conceded the better team won on the night.

“Curly were hungry from the outset, they out enthused us,” he said.

“They had a point to prove, so good luck to them.

“We switched off at the end and paid the price.”

Curl Curl’s road to the final was impressive.

Fellow AL/1s team Avalon were outclassed 3-0 in the first round, setting up a quarter-final clash with defending MWFA Challenge Cup winners St Augustine’s.

The same scoreline followed, and after beating Mosman 4-2 on penalties in the semi-final, Wakehurst were the final hurdle.

Seminara and his team will now turn their attention to winning their AL/1s competition, so they can be promoted to the MWFA Premier League for 2018.

Belrose Terrey Hills and Manly Allambie will ensure it is competitive until the final round.
