AVALON’s Premier League ladies squad claimed the first piece of available silverware recently, winning the final of the MWFA Challenge Cup on penalties versus Wakehurst at Cromer Park.

The Tigers were the better side early on, and took a deserved 1-0 lead into the sheds at halftime.

Reds coach Larry Bates encouraged his team to work harder in a few areas – and in the second half Alice Kirby made it 1-1.

Neither team was able to find a winner, with penalties the outcome.

Avalon emerged triumphant, with keeper Kira van Druten holding her nerve to slot home the decisive effort from 12 yards.

“I was happy for the girls, winning trophies never gets old,” Bates said.

“Hopefully now we can go on and have a big year in the league.”
