THE Amateur league men’s division one competition is already a two horse race after nine rounds.
CC Strikers, who were relegated last year from the MWFA Premier League, currently top the standings, but Curl Curl aren’t far behind, just two points adrift.
Anthony Seminara left Brookvale to create a fresh squad at Abbott Rd, and results have followed.
The squads meet this weekend in a massive clash at St Matthews Farm, and CC Strikers coach Ryan Butcher doesn’t need to remind his players what is on the line.
“I think we took being in the (MWFA) Premier League for granted,” he said.
“It isn’t about the players, it is more about the club being back in the top flight.
“The guys have bought into that idea from the first training session, and so far, so good.
“We know what quality Curl Curl have, if we play at our best, we should be competitive.”
Seminara’s boys know three points is crucial on the road.
Experience could prove to be the difference, with the likes of Brad Groves and Shaun Bowden no strangers to big games.
“Our aim at the start of the year was to consolidate,” the coach said.
“If we get promoted great, if not, we will keep building.
“Everything has been from scratch, our main focus is to offer a pathway so we don’t lose promising players once they turn 16 and 17.
“Everyone is looking forward to this weekend.”
