MUFC 18s v MWFA 18s review

MANLY United’s 18s boys squad made it a clean sweep over the MWFA Select squads this season, grinding out a 2-1 win on Tuesday night.

The club’s stars of tomorrow were forced to work hard for their bragging rights, with goals coming from Jacob Coban and Quynten Cheng in a high quality encounter at Cromer Park.

Frank Gigliotti is a big fan of the exercise.

“I thought it was a good game, the local lads kept us to 0-0 at halftime,” the Manly United coach said.

“In the second half we stepped up and scored a couple of quick goals.

“The MWFA select squad played smart football, they were prepared to sit back and not press us…..it worked well for them.

“A few of their players also caught my eye, it was played in a good spirit.

“I would like to see the concept played in a few more age groups, starting with the 13s.”

Earlier this year, both Manly United’s men and women’s squads outclassed their MWFA Premier League opponents 6-1.
